Congratulations to our Flag Committee, Diamond, Gabbie, Ashley and Katie.  Their efforts helped increase sales this year an additional 86 flags, which included 15 new businesses, and increased orders from existing businesses.  Last year 336 flags were posted around town, and this year we put out 421 flags.  Last year our net proceeds from the Flag Program were around $7,000 raised in funds for our club, this year we have over $9,000 in funds raised for the club. Thank you committee, flag team captains, and club members for all your fine efforts.  Next Flag distribution and pick up day is Labor Day, Monday September 4th, 2017.

Thank You from Last Year's Rotary Scholarship Winner- Kayla Sansevere

To whom it may concern, my name is Kayla Sansevere and I was fortunate enough to receive a generous, annual scholarship from the Forked River Rotary Club as a member of the Lacey Township High School graduating class of 2016. I wanted to send the Rotary Club an update on how my studies are going, and how the scholarship has benefited me. I currently attend Arcadia University as a rising sophomore with a major in Psychology and minor in Spanish. In Fall 2016, my first semester of university, I was able to study abroad in Stirling, Scotland--an experience I hold close to my heart and immensely cherish. While adjusting to a new country's culture, I succeeded not only in achieving a 3.3 GPA, but also discovering a place I call "home". Upon my arrival at Arcadia in January 2017, I again found myself adjusting to an unfamiliar place with a deep sadness of leaving the life I had created for myself in Scotland. Regardless, I was able to finish my spring semester with a 4.0 GPA. I also became heavily involved in my university's community, as I am now an Orientation Leader, First-Year Study Abroad Experience mentor, and Teacher's Assistant. In the fall, I will begin both my own research opportunities and assists professors in their research. I am also taking 20 credits while maintaining a work-study position. As for this summer, I am working a part-time job and participating as a hospice volunteer, where I comfort individuals with care and compassion in their last living days. I am thankful the Rotary Club awarded me with such a generous scholarship, as it assists me in achieving the various goals I create and allows me to take advantage of every opportunity. I truly feel as if I am able to embody the Rotary Club's guiding principles of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership, in all future endeavors and achievements. I hope you are able to share this message with fellow Rotarians whenever possible. Thank you, again!

AND THE WINNER IS............The Captains Inn in Forked River provided the setting for the Annual Rotary Club of Forked River GO FOR THE GOLD GALA. With only a limited number of tickets sold, conversation and canapés kept everyone busy while they counted down the minutes to the drawing of the ultimate jackpot of $10,000.00 in Gold!!! Several 50/50 winners were called while we waited, serving only to heighten the anticipation of the crowd. At precisely the stroke of 10pm, the ticket barrel was spun! And the Winner is.......Ashley Hughes pictured here with our Rotary Event Chair Veronica Laureigh.. Congratulations to Ashley and better luck next year to the rest of us! The 5th Annual Rotary Club of Forked River Doggie Derby was a howling success!!! Man's best friend was celebrated at this Hometown Family Event with canine demonstrations and competitions, vendors and food, music, rescues and activities for the young, the not so young and all our furry friends. It was a day that brought us together to celebrate all our furbabies and to benefit the many charitable contributions the Rotary Club of Forked River continues to make to our community and our citizens. For those dog owners that had your picture taken by our photographer, details will be forthcoming how you can download your photo and help by contributing to the Rotary Club of Forked River.  Thank you all that helped make this great event possible!  See you next year!

We lost a friend and long time Rotarian last December. And so, recently the Rotary Club of Forked River honored and celebrated the life of William S. (Bill) Whitson with a special ceremony to bestow Paul Harris Awards to his wife and children. Recounting the early days of Bill's Rotary involvement, founding Rotary Club of Forked River member, George Broome gave the gathering an insight to the man with 5 Paul Harris Awards and his humanitarian passions. Accepting the Paul Harris Awards from Past District Governor Peter Roukis and President William Recevuto, were Bill's wife Susie Whitson, his daughter Dawn Whitson Davis and on behalf of his son William Scott Wilson, Ami Baldi. Bill Whitson will be remembered for many things - his commitment to Rotary and this community, his friendship, his sense of humor and his plaid pants. We will miss you Bill.

The action was fast and furious at Saturday's event.  We had 50 Tournament players vying to be this years' Champion.  After a few hours of play 40 entrants were sent packing and we were down the the last 10 players at the Final Table.  Last years' winner Brian McGauley made it to the final table and was going for the re-peat.  After the smoke cleared, this years' Texas Hold Em' Tournament Champion is Tim Petrin a member of our club.
Thank you all that came out and supported our event, see you next year!
